The Campaign for the Graduate School of Education

Gift Planning

Planned gifts provide the resources that create extraordinary opportunities and shape our future.

Since its founding, UC Berkeley has benefited from visionary supporters who made planned gifts. Their generosity has been used to support undergraduate scholarships, graduate fellowships, faculty chairs, research, infrastructure, and other campus priorities.

A planned gift may enable you to make a more significant gift than you thought possible while at the same time allowing you to achieve your financial, philanthropic and estate planning goals. A planned gift may also provide you with significant tax benefits. To that end, there are a myriad of easy giving options from which you can choose - from naming us as a beneficiary in your will to a more complex trust arrangement.

For more information, please call the GSE's Office of Development and External Relations at 510-643-9784, or call University Relations' Office of Planned Giving at 510-642-6300. You may also visit the Office of Planned Giving website.

The Wheeler Society

A Strong Tradition of charitable Support
Planned giving donors have provided essential philanthropic support that has enabled UC Berkeley to become one of the world’s great universities. The Benjamin Ide Wheeler Society was established in 1987 to recognize and honor these visionary individuals.

The Graduate School of Education and the Wheeler Society
You may designate a gift in your estate plan to support the advancement of the Graduate School of Education.  Your gift will have a tremendous impact on our ability to support aspiring educators, ensure faculty excellence, and advance scholarly inquiry in the field of education.

Recognizing a Devoted Leader
The Society is named for Benjamin Ide Wheeler, president of the University from 1899 to 1919. Not only did President Wheeler transform Berkeley from a small western public university to one of the most distinguished centers of learning in the nation, he also was responsible for arranging the first life income gift to the University of California – a charitable trust from Jane Sather.

Stay Connected
Benjamin Ide Wheeler Society members enjoy an array of benefits. These include exclusive invitations to the summer Wheeler Society Tea hosted by the Chancellor, as well as to other campus athletic and cultural events. Members also receive the Cal Futures newsletter, which contains crucial philanthropic and estate planning information along with engaging stories of how Cal’s alumni and friends are shaping the University’s future.

For more information about joining the Wheeler Society and designating your gift to support GSE, please contact the Office of Development and External Relations at 510-643-9784, or University Relations’ Office of Planned Giving at 510-642-6300.  You may also visit the Office of Planned Giving website.
