Mahiri
Honored with
Chancellor’s Award

Jabari Mahiri, Associate Professor of Language
and Literacy, Society and Culture, has been selected as a recipient
of the 2007 Chancellor’s
Award for Advancing Institutional Excellence.
Mahiri is
among four distinguished recipients of the award that is given to faculty
who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence by providing leadership
in research, education and public service in building an equitable
and diverse learning environment. The other winners are: Caroline Kane,
professor of Molecular and Cell Biology; Frederick Collignon, professor
of City and Regional Planning and Susan Schweik, professor of English
(joint recipients). Winners of the award earn $30,000, which is placed
into a departmental account to be used at the discretion of the recipient.
Mahiri has been honored by UC Berkely in each of the last three years.
Last year, he was awarded the Leon
Henkin Citation for Distinguished Service. He was a 2005 recipient
of the UC
Graduate Assembly’s Faculty Mentorship Award.
The ceremony and reception to be held in honor
of the award recipients will take place on Wednesday, April 4, from
4–6 p.m. at the University
House (the award ceremony will begin promptly at 4:30 p.m.
