Classic Movies Screen on First Thursdays

GSE’s First Thursday Movie Series, launched in fall 2005, continues in the new year with four more classics:

February 2: The Miracle Worker (1962)

Academy Award winners Patty Duke and Anne Bancroft star in the biographical story of the blind and deaf Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan’s struggle to teach her how to communicate.

March 3: The Quiet One (1948)

A classic documentary of school’s power to challenge the brutalizing force of American racism, written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author James Agee.

April 6: The Education of Sonny Carson (1974)

A drama about the life of Sonny Carson, who was educated in New York’s schools, streets and jails, and developed from a honors student to a gang leader and then a Black revolutionary.

May 4: The Wild Child (1970)

Renowned French director Francois Truffaut’s true-life tale of a young boy found living alone in the woods of France in the 1700s, and how Dr. Jean Itard manages to educate him, with a lot of love and patience.

All films screen in Tolman 2515. Popcorn and drinks are on the house! For more information, contact series organizer Daniel Perlstein.
