The Developmental Teacher Education (DTE) program
hosted its first Panel of Teacher Research on May 10 for graduating
students to present and discuss their MA thesis research. Event
organizers Sumita Soni and Soo Hyun Han declared the first run an
unmitigated success in promoting DTE’s teaching and research.
"There’s a [false] impression that because we are teachers
that we’re not involved in academics or research, and that
what we do is not as relevant to the field," said Soni. "It’s
completely relevant."
Panels and discussions offered were:
"In the Classroom: Pedagogical Practices in Math, Science,
Writing and Collaborative Learning"
Abby Martin, Alison Merz, Ashley Christian and Tomiko Sharpnack
"Between the Classroom and Home: Varied Literacy Contexts:
Culture, Media and Language Acquisition"
Allen Lin, Daryl Wong, Soo Hyun Han
"The Classrom and Society: Macro-Social Aspects of School Culture"
Amelia Elgas, Margaret Goldberg, Margaret Lim and Sumita Soni
The panels were followed by a concluding discussion and reception.
