School of Education professor John
Hurst was honored with a 2006 Faculty Award for Outstanding
Mentorship of GSIs, one of five faculty members to receive the award
at a ceremony at Alumni House on May 8.
The selection committee was very impressed by the quality of Hurst’s
work on behalf of GSIs as evidenced by letters written in support
of his nomination by current and former GSIs, according to Linda
von Hoene, Director, GSI Teaching and Resource Center.
Six GSE students were also recognized as outstanding student instructors:
Sarah Griffin, Erica Kohl, Cecialia Lucas, Kenzo Sung, Maris Thompson,
Kofi-Charu Nat Turner and Xiaohui Zheng.
The award ia sponsored by the Graduate Council's Advisory Committee
for GSI Affairs, the GSI Teaching and Resource Center and the Alumni
Association. Statements of mentoring philosophy for Hurst and this
year's other recipients will be posted on the GSI
Teaching and Resource Center's website.
