Jennifer Russell, a doctoral candidate in the Policy,
Organization, Measurement and Evaluation program, has been awarded
a Spencer
Dissertation Fellowship. The $20,000 fellowship, given to only
30 Ph.D. candidates from all academic disciplines in the country,
will allow Russell to devote full-time to completion of her dissertation.
In addition to the stipend, she will be invited to participate in
two forums that offer support for dissertation writing and transitioning
into professional work.
Russell is in the data collection stage of her dissertation, which
examines how much children should be expected to learn in kindergarten
and the extent to which shifting societal expectations and educational
policies determine what and how kindergarten students are taught
in California. Her faculty advisor is Judith Warren Little.
