Furco Honored as NSEE Researcher of Year
Professor Andrew Furco received the 2006 National Society of Experiential Education’s (NSEE) Researcher of the Year Award in Nashville during NSEE’s annual conference, October 12. Furco was honored for his longstanding contributions to advancing understanding of programmatic features that help distinguish the effects and outcomes of various forms of experiential learning experiences, as well as for his more recent work, which has focused on the institutionalization of service-learning and community-based learning in higher education. The institutionalization work has involved more than 200 U.S. colleges and universities. Furco teaches courses in educational research, experiential learning and education reform in the Graduate School of Education. He also serves as director of the UC Berkeley’s newly-formed International Center for Research on Civic Engagement and Service-Learning.
