Schoolwide Efforts to Aid Victims of Hurricane Mitch
In response to the disaster wrought by Hurricane Mitch in Nicaragua and Honduras, GSE
students Myriam Casimir and Tico Arenas coordinated a relief drive in the GSE.
The response by students, staff, and faculty in the School and in neighboring Psychology was immediate
and generous. In November we delivered 60 boxes of medicine, food and clothing to a relief agency.
Through December the School of Education had collected $1460, which was donated primarily to the Center
for the Study of the Americas, a non-profit research group based in Berkeley that collects the funds and
sends them directly to a public health activist group committed to the delivery of supplies and services
to the damaged areas. Donations are still being accepted as the rebuilding begins.
Checks can be sent directly to:
Please make checks payable to "CENSA" and mark them for "Central American Hurricane Relief Fund."
