This year San Francisco served as the host city for the 1995 Annual Meeting of the American Education Research Association, held April 18-22. Approximately 11,250 people attended the event. The Graduate School of Education supported AERA's week-long conference in a number of ways.
At the conference, 14 faculty and 22 students presented papers and participated in a variety of seminars. On Wednesday, April 19, Berkeley's GSE held a reception, hosted by Dean William D. Rohwer Jr. Over 350 colleagues, alumni, and students gathered to honor the School's recent faculty retirees.
Immediately preceding AERA on April 17-18 was the Eighth International Objective Measurement Workshop. The event, which is held every other year in conjunction with AERA, was organized by education Professor Mark Wilson and graduate student Karen Draney. It drew approximately 100 educational and psychological researchers from at least 13 countries. The workshop included symposia, computer-based sessions, and poster sessions in which participants shared their research on theoretical and applied measurement issues.
The proximity of AERA's meeting to the Berkeley campus also resulted in two faculty making major contributions to the event in nontraditional ways. Professor Ann Brown, past-president of AERA, and Professor Joseph Campione, compiled a sightseeing and culinary guide to the San Francisco Bay Area for AERA participants that won considerable praise.
