or the Principal Leadership Institute, Janette Hernandez coordinates the Leadership Support Program, is a co-instructor for courses, and is a principal in residence. She served as principal and assistant principal at Everett Middle School in San Francisco for five years, advocating for teacher excellence and equity issues. She held the position of instructional specialist for the Superintendent's Committee on Special Education, addressing the overrepresentation of African Americans and Latinos referred for Special Education services. Hernandez also coordinated the district literacy program for bilingual and special education teachers, Project OLE (Optimal Learning Environments.) She was a special education teacher for seven years, five of them in Brisbane, Australia.
