aul Ammon is known for his commitment to scholarship in education, teacher preparation, and advising doctoral students. He is the director and co-founder of Developmental Teacher Education, the Graduate School of Education's nationally known model program for preparing elementary school teachers with an emphasis on teaching for conceptual understanding and for social justice. His research interests are cognitive development, language and literacy, and teacher development. In 2002 he received the Distinguished Teacher Educator Award from the California Council on Teacher Education. He is a member of the American Educational Research Association, the American Psychological Association, the Jean Piaget Society, the Association for Constructivist Teaching, and the Association of Teacher Educators. Paul Ammon has written numerous articles, including "Learning and Development in Constructivist Teacher Education," in Reframing Teacher Education: Dimensions of a Constructivist Approach(with L. Kroll, 2002); "Developmental Psychology as a Guide for Teaching and Teacher Preparation," in How Students Learn: Reforming Schools through Learner-Centered Education(with A. Black, 1998).
