APPLICATION
PROCEDURE:
MUSE is a program
in the Graduate School of Education. To apply, you must complete application
forms for both the University of California, Berkeley Graduate Division
as well as for the Graduate School of Education. Application forms are
available on campus in 1600 Tolman Hall. You may also apply online at:

ADMISSIONS DEADLINE: December 3, 2007*
* Be sure to take
your tests as soon as possible, exam results take a few weeks to reach
the University. Wise students take their exams before December, so if
they do not pass an exam they still have time to retake the test before
the deadline.
A strong
candidate for MUSE:
- Possesses
a solid academic background in English or other related field such as,
World Literature, English Literature, ethnic studies, drama, journalism,
or linguistics.
- Has experience
working with youth in educational settings, especially working with
culturally diverse groups
- Displays
the personal characteristics of being flexible, organized, articulate,
and confident
- Has a
strong interest
in urban teaching
Tests:
Applicants to
MUSE must take three examinations:
1. The GRE
General test
GRE scores
primarily help us argue for certain kinds of fellowships. This test
should be taken no later then December 1, 2007.

***Students passing their exams by December 1st have the best chance
of qualifing for fellowships.

2. The CSET
subject exam *
You must pass all four English subtests by January 2008.

below.

Exams
taken in March 2007 will deliver their results to the University
at the tail end of the interview cycle, and there may not be openings
in the program at that time.

3. The CBEST
exam
CBEST must be passed by December 2007 unless applicant is from out
of state. Out of state students must take the exam as soon as they
arrive in California.

FINANCIAL
AID:
The first step in obtaining financial aid from UC Berkeley is to complete
a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The application is
available online at: http://FAFSA.ed.gov.
You may also pick one up at 318 Sproul Hall on the UCB Campus. Several
private scholarships are also available to students who make the effort
to seek them out and complete their own applications. For complete financial
