Center for the Study of Critical Transitions
Critical transitions names a family of changes
in individuals or groups that are both difficult to achieve and also
important in terms of cognitive and social function. Examples are stage
transitions in development, conceptual change, and critical life changes,
such as transitions from home to institutional learning, pivotal changes
of community membership, or even defining changes in cultures or sub-cultures.
The central mission of the Center for the Study of Critical Transitions
will be to investigate and, if possible, catalyze and extend recent
confluences of perspective and focus within cognitive, developmental
and sociocultural approaches to the diverse phenomena surrounding critical
transitions. In particular, we want to emphasize common issues, identify
missed or misunderstood problems, understand the complementarity of
perspectives, and develop - as much as possible - a framework for common
work.
