We are pleased
to announce that we have expanded the campusí service-learning instructional
minigrant program to include new award categories that offer faculty
more options for accessing instructional minigrant funds for service-learning.
All categories of service-learning minigrants are intended to support
individual and collaborating faculty to develop, improve, or evaluate
service learning courses, as well as to implement service-learning
institutionalization initiatives in their departments or on campus.
The overarching goals of the program are to encourage the development
of service-learning activities that will have lasting impact on
instruction, and to promote the institutionalization of at least
one service-learning course in every department.
Co-sponsored by the Office of Educational Development and the Service-Learning
Research and Development Center, the Instructional Minigrant Program
provides assistance to faculty who integrate community service activities
into the academic curriculum. Through service-learning, students
can gain a broad, contextual understanding of academic content by
using course theories to address important public issues in the
local community. Instructional minigrants are not normally given
in support of one-time only efforts.
