Tuition and Fees

Tuition and fees are subject to change.

The tuition, fees, and charges posted on the website are estimates based on currently approved amounts. These figures are not final. Actual tuition, fees, and charges are subject to change by the Regents of the University of California and could be affected by State funding reductions. Accordingly, final approved levels (and thus a student's final balance due) may differ from the amounts shown.

Please refer to the Registrar’s website for the most up to date information on Tuition and Fees.

Fellowship Opportunities

UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Education has a strong fellowship program, with numerous avenues for applying for financial support. About 60% of the applicants admitted to the GSE who request fellowship consideration receive an award offer. The School may waive some fees for students in the Principal Leadership Institute. The fellowship application is found within the Graduate Division application.

Both multi-year and single-year fellowships are awarded through this fellowship program. Multi-year fellowships are determined through a campus-wide competition. Fellowship applications are first reviewed by the GSE, which makes recommendations to the Committee on Fellowships and Graduate Scholarships.

Returning or continuing students for readmission should contact the Fellowships Assistant in January at (510) 642-0841for a continuing student fellowship application and information. This includes current UC Berkeley graduate students who are applying for a change of degree goal and/or major.

Graduate Division Fellowship Opportunities for Entering Doctoral Students

Deadlines and application materials for Berkeley, Graduate Division, and extramural fellowships can be found on the Graduate Division Fellowships websites. Incoming students are eligible for consideration for Fellowships for Entering Students. To learn more, explore the Guide to Fellowships and Grants.

In addition to the Graduate Fellowships Division’s Fellowship opportunities listed on their website, the GSE offers a Fellowship Competition for all new students recommended for admission. The process is that when faculty are reviewing applications and making admissions recommendations, they are also making nominations for the various fellowship opportunities. The GSE Faculty Fellowship Committee reviews the nominees, and makes awards recommendation decisions. For fellowship consideration, please complete the fellowship section of the Graduate Division’s Admissions Application.

Graduate Division Fellowship Opportunities for Entering Masters Students

There are a number of Departmentally Restricted Fellowships and other Scholarship Awards specifically for Masters Only and Masters/Credential Students. Parent Grant for Student Parents

Student parents make up about 10% of Berkeley’s graduate population. Berkeley is committed to supporting policies, programs, and services to help student parents meet their family care obligations while they pursue their academic goals. The Graduate Council of the Academic Senate has approved academic accommodation policies designed to be supportive of graduate students with substantial parenting responsibilities. For more information, visit the Student Parent Policies section of the Guide to Graduate Policy. Programs that implement these policies are described below.

Registered graduate student parents who live with dependent children and demonstrate financial need are eligible for a grant that may be applied toward housing/living expenses, dependent health insurance, childcare, and/or tuition. For funds currently available and deadlines for submission of application, see the Parent Grant Application Instructions.

GSE Fellowship Opportunities

The Graduate School of Education sponsors a Continuing/Returning Graduate Student Fellowship Competition each Spring semester. Applications are available in late December and students must apply by the mid-February deadline. Applications are found on the GSE website.
