The most common forms of payments to students are through financial aid awards and through student employment. Before committing to any payment to a student, please consult with the appropriate unit as listed below.
- Financial aid awards are paid through the financial aid component of the Student Information System (SIS).
- Most financial aid awards are submitted through Student Services for cohorts of students.
- One-off requests can be sent to the BSE Business Services Office at bse_BusinessOffice@berkeley.edu with full information filled out in this form: Department Student Award Request, note that each request is reviewed by Student Services.

Student employment is compensation for work performed; students cannot begin work until hiring has been completed through UC Path

Participant support may be appropriate for a student who is receiving a service or training opportunity from an activity funded by a sponsored award (Click here for participant support guidelines). Note that if the student is providing a good or service this is not participant support. Email bse_BusinessOffice@berkeley.edu for pre-approval and to process participant support.
Student Reimbursements are available for any up-front spending on supplies, travel, conference registration, etc.
