Alumna Kelly Bowers EdD '16, BA '87

Livermore Joint Valley Unified School District Superintendent Kelly Bowers, who has held her post since 2010, is the longest continuously serving superintendent of a K-12 school district in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Dr. Bowers has returned to the GSE as a Practitioner in Residence for our School Leadership programs. She talked with the GSE about what it means to be a school systems leader in the current climate, how to pursue equity in the suburbs, and advice for emerging educational leaders.

Some of her favorite sentiments:

  • People support what they help create!
  • A strong woman stands up for herself and a stronger woman stands up for everybody else.
  • Sometimes you face difficulties, not because you're doing something wrong, but because you're doing something right.
