Dermot Donnelly

Postdoctoral Scholar

Dermot F. Donnelly is currently an Assistant Professor at California State University, Fresno.  He was a former Post-Doctoral Researcher with the Technology Enhanced Learning in Science (TELS: 2012-2015; www.wise4.berkeley.edu) group at UC Berkeley, directed by Professor Marcia C. Linn.  He worked on the NSF-funded CLASS and GRIDS projects, studying the use of automated guidance and graphing to support middle school science learning.

Dermot's Ph.D. research studied the use of a virtual laboratory to support student inquiry in Irish secondary school science classrooms (Supervisors: Drs. John O'Reilly & Oliver McGarr).  He spent 10 months as a visiting post-doctoral fellow at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, researching the use of wikis to support online teacher collaboration (Collaborators: Suzanne Boniface & Anne Hume).  Dermot obtained his BSc. in Physical Science Education.

His overall research interests include:

-computer-based inquiry learning environments/simulations in education

-teacher adaptation of technology and inquiry based approaches

-teacher professional learning communities

-automated guidance for short-text responses

-graph literacy
