Soraya Sablo Sutton is the Assistant Director of the Principal Leadership Institute. She received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley Graduate School of Education in the division of Language, Literacy, and Culture in 2003. A central focus of Dr. Sablo Sutton's research has been on literacy issues–and specifically those concerning students of color in urban schools.
In addition to teaching courses in the PLI, Dr. Sablo Sutton coordinates programs for teacher leaders, works with local districts to support practicing administrators, and serves as an international consultant on projects focused on school-wide improvement efforts. Most recently, she worked with a group of administrators and pedagogical mentors in Santiago, Chile at the Unviersidad de Diego Portales.
Prior to joining the PLI, Soraya worked in San Leandro Unified School District and Oakland Unified School District as a teacher, instructional coach, vice principal and elementary principal. Soraya is a graduate of the Principal Leadership Institute, Cohort 13.
